Oceanarium
d
e Lisboa

distance 70 km

At the Lisbon Oceanarium, you can marvel at over 8,000 animals and 500 species of plants, all housed within seven million liters of saltwater. Located in Parque das Nações in Lisbon, Portugal, the Oceanarium was built for Expo 98 and designed by American architect Peter Chermayeff. Its structure, resembling an aircraft carrier, sits in the “Doca dos Olivais” on the edge of the Tagus River.

As the second-largest oceanarium in Europe, it features an impressive collection of birds, mammals, fish, and other marine life. The Oceanarium is divided into four distinct zones, each representing the habitats of the Atlantic, Pacific, Indian, and Antarctic oceans, along with their unique flora and fauna. A highlight for many visitors is the large central tank, where a variety of fish—including sharks, barracudas, rays, tunas, and small tropical species—coexist in a stunning underwater display.
